Why Early Orthodontics with a focus on airway?

Certain oral habits and jaw deformities can be linked with medical concerns such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Sleep Disordered Breathing.

When a child’s smile appears crowded or crooked, it may be a sign that the jaw is not developing properly. A narrow upper jaw can restrict the size of the nasal cavity, making it difficult for children to breathe through their noses. As a result, they may resort to mouth breathing, particularly at night, which can lead to snoring, dry mouth, and disturbed sleep. Over time, these sleep issues can affect a child’s focus, behavior, and growth.

Early evaluation by age 7 helps identify issues like crowding, bite problems, or jaw growth concerns—often before they become more serious. Phase One treatment typically lasts about a year and can guide jaw development, create space for permanent teeth, and reduce the need for future extractions or surgery.

Common early treatment concerns include:
– Severe crowding
– Crossbite or underbite
– Thumb-sucking habits
– Protruding front teeth
– Narrow dental arches

Not every child needs early treatment—many simply benefit from monitoring. That’s why SoCo Dental offers a Growth Observation Program with free checkups every 6–12 months to track your child’s development over time.
